What Does “Remove Line Breaks” Mean?
A line break is the invisible jump to a new line — the thing that happens every time you press Enter. Sometimes text arrives full of them: a paragraph copied from a PDF, an address pasted from a spreadsheet, a message copied from a chat. Each line is short, and the text reads like a list instead of a sentence.
Removing line breaks joins those lines back together into one flowing paragraph. For example, “hello” on one line and “world” on the next becomes “hello world” — one line, one space between the words.
This page opens with the Remove Line Breaks tool already selected, so you do not have to hunt for the right button. Paste your text, and the lines are joined at once.
How to Use This Line Break Remover
- Paste or type your text in the box above.
- Remove Line Breaks is already selected — just check the result.
- Copy it with one click, or download it as a text, PDF, Word or Excel file. You can also upload a whole file (PDF, Word, Excel or CSV) and join every line inside it at once.
Line Break Rules (the Simple Version)
| What the text has | What happens | Example |
|---|---|---|
| A line break between two words | It becomes one space | hello↵world → hello world |
| Two line breaks in a row (a blank line) | They become one space too — the blank line disappears | Line one.↵↵Line two. → Line one. Line two. |
| Spaces inside a line | They stay exactly as they are | “the quick” stays “the quick” |
| Capital and small letters | They do not change | “Hello World” stays “Hello World” |
| Punctuation | It does not change | “Hi!” stays “Hi!” |
One thing to remember: this tool only removes line breaks. It never adds or removes words, and it never changes the order of your text. If two lines were separate sentences, they will now sit in one paragraph — read it once and add a full stop if one is missing.
Examples (checked by hand)
- “hello↵world” → “hello world”
- “the quick↵brown fox↵jumps” → “the quick brown fox jumps”
- “Dear Sir,↵Thank you for your email.↵Best regards,↵Ali” → “Dear Sir, Thank you for your email. Best regards, Ali”
- “Room 101↵Meet me at 5 pm” → “Room 101 Meet me at 5 pm”
Notice the pattern in every example: the lines are joined with exactly one space, and everything else — capitals, punctuation, numbers — is exactly where it was.
When to Use a Line Break Remover
Use it whenever text arrives broken into short lines and you need it as normal flowing text. The most common case is copying from a PDF: PDFs break lines wherever the page ended, so a copied paragraph comes out as ten short lines. Paste it here and it becomes one paragraph again. It is also the fix for addresses and lists pasted from spreadsheets, for chat messages copied line by line, and for text from ebooks that wraps oddly.
Do not use it when the line breaks carry meaning — a poem, a song, or an address where each line is a separate part. There, the breaks are the format, not the problem.
Why Use Our Line Break Remover?
Most free line break pages give you a bare box and nothing else. This one gives you the same tool as our main Case Converter, with three things the thin competitor pages do not offer: upload a whole file and fix it in one go, download the result in four formats, and Find & Replace inside your text before cleaning it. It is free, it works on a phone, and nothing you paste is stored.
Frequently Asked Questions About Removing Line Breaks
What is the difference between removing line breaks and removing empty lines?
Removing line breaks joins every line into one paragraph. Removing empty lines only deletes the blank lines and keeps the rest of the lines separate. This tool does the first — and because a blank line is only line breaks, blank lines disappear along the way.
Will it change my words or their order?
No. It only replaces line breaks with a single space. Words, capitals, numbers and punctuation all stay exactly where they were.
Does it work on text copied from a PDF?
Yes — that is its most common use. Paste the copied text, and the short broken lines become one flowing paragraph. If the PDF also added double spaces inside lines, those stay; use Find & Replace to tidy them.
Can I clean a whole document at once?
Yes. Upload a PDF, Word, Excel or CSV file, remove the line breaks, and download the result. That is the feature most simple line break pages do not have.
